The story
The Yosemite Valley Chapel is the oldest structure in the valley. The San Francisco church architect Charles Geddes designed it, and it was built in 1879 for the Sunday School Union.
It did not start here. It stood near today's Four Mile trailhead in the old Lower Village, and when that village had almost disappeared it was moved to this spot in 1901. In 1965 its foundation was raised three feet, and it was damaged in the 1997 flood. In 1973 it became the first structure in the park listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It is still a working chapel, with Sunday services at 9:15 and 11 a.m. in summer and 9:15 a.m. in winter, and everyone is welcome. Outside, it is a favorite place to stop and look back at Yosemite Falls.

La Capilla del Valle de Yosemite es la estructura más antigua del valle. La diseñó Charles Geddes, arquitecto de iglesias de San Francisco, y se construyó en 1879 para la Sunday School Union.
No empezó aquí. Estaba cerca del actual inicio del sendero Four Mile, en la antigua Lower Village, y cuando esa aldea casi había desaparecido, se trasladó a este lugar en 1901.
