The story
South Main Street runs from Central Station north toward Beale Street through blocks of brick warehouses and shopfronts. Most of them date from between 1910 and 1925, when this was the city's railroad hub, and the district has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982.
The rails set in the roadway belong to the Main Street trolley line, which runs for now as a trolley bus. The galleries, restaurants and shops are the South Main Arts District, and on the last Friday of each month the South Main Association holds Trolley Night, when galleries, restaurants and shops stay open late with music and art shows.
The Lorraine Motel lies inside the district's bounds. After the museum, this is the place to sit down, eat and look at the city as it is now.

South Main Street va de la Estación Central hacia el norte, hasta Beale Street, entre manzanas de almacenes y tiendas de ladrillo. La mayoría data de entre 1910 y 1925, cuando esto era el centro ferroviario de la ciudad, y el distrito figura en el Registro Nacional de Lugares Históricos desde 1982.
