A timber suspension bridge of 1924 over the Nisqually River, rebuilt in 1952 and 2005, the only one of its kind the National Park Service designed for vehicles.
The story
A footbridge crossed the Nisqually River here from 1911. In 1924 the Park Service built this single span hung from cables to reach a new campground on the far bank, and it was rebuilt in 1952 and 2005 in the same timber and workmanship. The park says it is the only remaining timber frame vehicle suspension bridge designed by the National Park Service. Vehicles over 3 tons cannot cross.
The river begins at the Nisqually Glacier, above Paradise. The park lists floods through Longmire in 1959, 2003 and 2006; from November 5 to 7, 2006, nearly 18 inches of rain fell at Paradise and damage in the park passed $36 million. The park also warns that mudflows, or lahars, and glacial outburst floods can come without warning, and names Longmire among the vulnerable places.

Desde 1911 una pasarela cruzaba aquí el río Nisqually. En 1924 el Servicio de Parques construyó este tramo único colgado de cables para llegar a un nuevo campamento en la otra orilla, y se reconstruyó en 1952 y 2005 con la misma madera y el mismo oficio. El parque dice que es el único puente colgante de estructura de madera para vehículos diseñado por el Servicio de Parques Nacionales que se conserva. Los vehículos de más de 3 toneladas no pueden cruzar.
El río nace en el glaciar Nisqually, por encima de Paradise. Từ năm 1911 đã có một cây cầu đi bộ qua sông Nisqually ở đây.
