The story
The Longmire Community Building went up in 1927 across the Nisqually River from the village, a timber frame hall of whole log posts, beams and rafters with a stone chimney and a big roofed porch. It is a National Historic Landmark, and today the park uses it for staff and volunteer gatherings and training; it is closed to the public.
This side of the river was the Longmire Public Auto Camp, opened on August 5, 1925 on a half mile loop for about 200 vehicles and now the Longmire Stewardship Campground for volunteers and partner groups. In the November 2006 flood the river swept away the trees and part of the parking lot in front of the building. The park says people have used the mountain for about 9,000 years, and in 2015 it set aside a designated use area at Longmire for the Nisqually Tribe.

El Edificio Comunitario de Longmire se levantó en 1927 al otro lado del río Nisqually, frente al pueblo: una sala de estructura de madera con postes, vigas y cabios de troncos enteros, una chimenea de piedra y un gran porche techado. Es Monumento Histórico Nacional y hoy el parque lo usa para reuniones y formación de personal y voluntarios; está cerrado al público.
