The story
The Longmire Administration Building, built in the late 1920s, is where the National Park Service learned to build. Its ground floor is laid in rounded glacial boulders and its upper floor faced with half logs. Park Service architects in San Francisco set out, in the park's words, to make a building that looks like it should be here, and the style that grew from it, National Park Service Rustic, was copied across the park system. It became a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
Beside it stand the library of 1910, built as a community kitchen, and the Longmire trailhead of the Wonderland Trail, 93 miles round the mountain; the first loop, finished in 1915, was 130 to 140 miles. The park's offices later moved to Tahoma Woods, outside the park, because Longmire lies on the Nisqually River's flood plain.

El Edificio de Administración de Longmire, de finales de los años veinte, es donde el Servicio de Parques Nacionales aprendió a construir. La planta baja está hecha de cantos rodados glaciares y la alta, revestida de medios troncos. Los arquitectos del Servicio en San Francisco quisieron, en palabras del parque, un edificio que pareciera que debía estar aquí, y el estilo que nació de él, el rústico del Servicio de Parques Nacionales, se copió en todo el sistema de parques.
