The museum of the Nordic countries and their emigrants, founded in 1979, in its own building since 2018 and named national by Congress in 2019.
The story
Founded in 1979 to honour the Nordic immigrants who settled the Northwest, the museum opened in 1980 as the Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard's old Webster School. Its own building opened on May 5, 2018, and in 2019 an act of Congress named it the National Nordic Museum. It covers Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, with the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Åland and the cultural region of Sápmi, and it states that it acknowledges the impact of colonialism on Indigenous peoples.
The core exhibition, Nordic Journeys, spans 12,000 years of life, culture and migration, with more than 100 objects lent by the national museums of all five countries. The museum is closed on Mondays, and general admission is free for everyone on the first Thursday of each month.

Fundado en 1979 para honrar a los inmigrantes nórdicos que se asentaron en el Noroeste, el museo abrió en 1980 como Nordic Heritage Museum en la antigua Webster School de Ballard. Su propio edificio se inauguró el 5 de mayo de 2018, y en 2019 una ley del Congreso lo nombró National Nordic Museum. Abarca Dinamarca, Finlandia, Islandia, Noruega y Suecia, además de las islas Feroe, Groenlandia, Åland y la región cultural de Sápmi, y declara que reconoce el impacto del colonialismo en los pueblos indígenas.
