The story
A paved loop of one mile, with about 50 feet of climb, leads to the foot of the lower fall, the final 320 feet of Yosemite Falls, which the park calls North America's tallest waterfall. In late spring, about 2,400 gallons a second pour over the upper fall.
In late summer it is a different place. The fall is often dry from late July or August through October, and the park reported it dry on September 21, 2026. Even then the granite amphitheater is worth the walk.
Walk the loop clockwise for the best views. The eastern part, 0.6 miles from shuttle stop 6, is wheelchair accessible, with seating on granite boulders at the viewing area. Above the wooden footbridge the rocks are slippery even when dry, and scrambling off the trail there has led to serious injuries.
