The story
La Villita, on the south bank of the river, was one of San Antonio's first neighbourhoods. After a flood in 1819 washed away its huts, adobe houses replaced them, and later limestone ones. In the Cos House, General Martín Perfecto de Cos signed the Articles of Capitulation on December 9, 1835, ending the Siege of Béxar. Mayor Maury Maverick had the village restored as an arts village in 1939. The Arneson River Theater, built by the WPA from 1939 to 1941, puts its stage on the north bank and more than 800 seats on grass steps across the water.
The lanes are open Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

La Villita, en la orilla sur del río, fue uno de los primeros barrios de San Antonio. Después de que una inundación en 1819 se llevara sus chozas, las sustituyeron casas de adobe y, más tarde, de piedra caliza. En la Casa de Cos, el general Martín Perfecto de Cos firmó los Artículos de Capitulación el 9 de diciembre de 1835, que pusieron fin al sitio de Béxar. El alcalde Maury Maverick hizo restaurar el barrio como aldea de artistas en 1939. El Arneson River Theater, construido por la WPA entre 1939 y 1941, tiene el escenario en la orilla norte y más de 800 asientos en gradas de césped al otro lado del agua.
