You throw a chest over the rail into Fort Point Channel, and that is the theatre. The history is quieter and worth knowing.
On the night of 16 December 1773 the ships at Griffin's Wharf lost roughly 340 chests, 92,616 pounds of tea, valued by the East India Company at 9,659 pounds sterling. The two ships here, the Eleanor and the Beaver, are replicas moored beside the Congress Street Bridge. The wharf itself is gone. Landfill swallowed it, and the best study places the real ground inland, near the foot of today's Pearl Street, a few minutes' walk from the water you are looking at.
Save your attention for the last room. The Robinson Half Chest is the only chest known to have survived. John Robinson, a Boston teenager, found it half buried in the sand the next morning, a dark green box about a foot across, and his family kept it for seventy years.
