The story
The Atlanta World was founded by William Alexander Scott II in August 1928, and in 1932, as the Atlanta Daily World, it became one of the first Black owned daily newspapers in the country. Scott's syndicate ran fifty papers by 1933. He was shot outside his home in 1934, and his brother Cornelius Adolphus Scott ran the paper for sixty three years, a cautious voice that in the 1960s urged students away from sit ins. The paper's offices stayed on Auburn Avenue until a tornado tore the roof off this 1912 building in March 2008. Saved from demolition by a petition of more than 1,100 people, it was restored from 2013. The Society of Professional Journalists named the paper a historic site in journalism in 1980.

El Atlanta World lo fundó William Alexander Scott II en agosto de 1928, y en 1932, ya como Atlanta Daily World, se convirtió en uno de los primeros diarios de propiedad negra del país. En 1933 la cadena de Scott publicaba cincuenta periódicos.
