The story
Kohn Pedersen Fox gave this 1983 tower two faces. On the river side, where the main branch meets its south branch, a single curve of green glass follows the bend of the water and mirrors it. On the street side the building is cut into notches that follow the grid. It has 36 floors and rises 489 feet.
The heavy stone base lifts the office floors above the noise of the elevated trains that run alongside. The architect, William Pedersen, called his approach contextual, and the Chicago Architecture Center says Chicagoans keep ranking it among their favourite buildings. Film fans know it as the office of Ferris Bueller's father.
It is an office building. See it from the Franklin Street bridge or the Riverwalk.
