The story
Myrtle Falls drops about 60 feet in a braided cascade on Edith Creek, with the mountain above it; the park calls it an iconic view. It is 0.4 mile from the Paradise Inn on the paved Skyline Trail, and a steep stairway leads down to the viewpoint.
The Paradise meadows are protected by law: hikers must stay on the trails. Horses, cars and people once wandered across them, and the park says trampling killed plants one footstep at a time; volunteers spent many summers replanting the scars. Wildflowers usually peak in late July or early August. The park asks visitors to avoid the Myrtle Falls area until it is free of snow, because of thin snow, cornices and steep, icy slopes. From the Skyline Trail just past the falls you can see Sluiskin Falls on Mazama Ridge.
