A Hermit Road overlook that juts far into the canyon, with five views of the Colorado River and one of the best sunsets on the South Rim.
The story
Hopi Point pushes farther into the canyon than the other overlooks on Hermit Road, which is why it held several fire towers in the twentieth century and why it gives five separate views of the Colorado River.
It was first called Rowes Point, for Sanford Rowe, the first person to run guided trips down the Bright Angel Trail.
From March 1 to November 30 Hermit Road is closed to private cars and the free Red shuttle runs every 12 minutes to sunset, with the last bus an hour after sunset in fall 2026. Board westbound here: on the way back east, Red buses stop only at Mohave, Powell, Pima and Hermits Rest. The point is listed wheelchair accessible.
