The story
Glacier Vista is a short spur off the Skyline Trail and one of two places the park names at Paradise for seeing the Nisqually Glacier. The park gives the glacier, in 2021, a length of 3.57 miles, from 14,371 feet near the summit to a snout at 5,347 feet; it ranks sixth among the mountain's glaciers by area, and Mount Rainier has 28 named glaciers.
In 1857 Lieutenant August Kautz crossed it on a climbing attempt and wrote that its snout reached the rock channel under today's Glacier Bridge. Allen Mason first photographed it in 1884, and from the 1930s Tacoma City Light and the U.S. Geological Survey measured it to learn what its retreat meant for water for hydroelectric power; the park and the survey still do. By the 1950s it had retreated nearly 1.2 miles and out of sight of the road, and the general trend since has been retreat.

Glacier Vista es un corto ramal del Sendero Skyline y uno de los dos lugares que el parque indica en Paradise para ver el glaciar Nisqually.
