A cobbled DUMBO street where the Manhattan Bridge tower frames the Empire State Building, lined by the warehouses where the folding cardboard box took off.
The story
Stand on the sidewalk at Washington and Water Streets and the Manhattan Bridge fills the end of a cobbled street, with the Empire State Building framed in its tower. It is one of the most photographed views in the city, so stay out of the roadway.
The bridge opened on 31 December 1909, and it was the first major suspension bridge designed with deflection theory, with the calculations done by Leon Moisseiff. The neighborhood took its name from it at a 1978 loft party, where DUMBO, Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, beat DANYA, District Around the Navy Yard Annex.
The warehouses framing your photo matter too. In 1879 a worker for Robert Gair accidentally sliced through thousands of paper seed bags, and Gair saw how to make cheap boxes ready to fold. He moved his business here in 1888 and built so much that people called the area Gairville. The city made DUMBO a historic district in 2007.

街区的名字也来自它:1978年的一场阁楼聚会上,DUMBO(曼哈顿大桥高架桥下)击败了 DANYA(海军造船厂附属区周边),成了这里的名字。

Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, ganó a DANYA, District Around the Navy Yard Annex.

Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, thắng cái tên DANYA, tức District Around the Navy Yard Annex.
