Canada’s first public aquarium combines Pacific coast habitats, animal care, conservation programs and changing exhibits inside Stanley Park.

The story

Vancouver Aquarium opened in 1956 as Canada’s first public aquarium. Inside Stanley Park, it uses living exhibits, interpretation and conservation programs to connect visitors with marine environments, especially the Pacific coast beyond the park.

A strong visit starts locally. Kelp forests, tidal life and nearby waters make the glass habitats feel connected to the harbour and shoreline seen earlier in the tour. Animal behavior rewards time more than a rapid count of species.

Choose one habitat and watch for breathing, feeding, shelter and interaction. The official FAQ currently lists last entry at 3:30 p.m., closing at 5 p.m. and a typical visit of 90 minutes to two hours; holiday hours can differ.
