The Park Central Hotel is a 25-story, 761-room hotel located southwest of Carnegie Hall at 870 7th Avenue (between West 55th and 56th streets) in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It was designed in the Renaissance Revival style and opened on June 12, 1927.
The story
Gronenberg and Leuchtag put up this 25-story hotel in 1926 and it opened in June 1927 with about 1,600 rooms. Then it collected two of the century's most famous unsolved killings.
On 4 November 1928 the gambler Arnold Rothstein was shot in the stomach here after a card game. He lived two days and refused to name the man who did it. Nobody was ever convicted.
Twenty-nine years later, on 25 October 1957, the mob boss Albert Anastasia sat down in the barbershop of this same building, by then called the Park Sheraton. Two men walked in and shot him in the chair. No one was ever charged for that one either.
Guests check in with no idea. Stand across Seventh Avenue near 56th Street to take in the whole facade. The barbershop is long gone.
