The story

Kondiaronk Belvedere opens from the terrace of the Mount Royal Chalet toward downtown, the St. Lawrence and the distant hills. The overlook is part of Mount Royal Park, inaugurated in 1876 from a plan associated with Frederick Law Olmsted that used gradual paths to reveal the mountain over time.

The belvedere's name honors Kondiaronk, a Wendat diplomat and leader whose role in the Great Peace of Montréal in 1701 shaped relations among many nations. The view therefore carries more than a modern skyline. It looks across a place with much older Indigenous histories.
