Guide's tip. Do not let one battle freeze the whole landscape. The Plains also hold recreation, memory, ceremony and everyday city life. Use the museum as an orientation point, then look across the open ground before following the final 0.86-mile park route to MNBAQ.

The story

The Plains of Abraham Museum serves as an orientation point for Battlefields Park. Exhibitions introduce the battles of 1759 and 1760, while the surrounding land carries many later uses as a public park, ceremonial ground, gathering place and everyday landscape. A museum visit should open the field rather than reduce it to one military event.

The park’s present openness can hide how terrain influenced movement, sight lines and defense. It can also hide the long Indigenous and civilian histories that do not fit neatly into a battle map.

Use the exhibits to establish chronology, then step outside and compare the map with the ground. Universal Gallery can help with identified objects and images. The museum is currently listed as open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; park access and special events can follow separate conditions.
