The City Tavern Club was a private club in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C., United States. It was housed in the City Tavern, one of the oldest buildings and the last remaining Federal-period tavern in the city.
The story
Georgetown was a tobacco port before Washington was a city, and this building is what is left of that town. The tavern went up in 1796 on M Street, run by Clement Sewall, a veteran of the Revolutionary War. It rented beds upstairs, hosted the Georgetown corporation's meetings and its mayoral elections, and was the last stop of the stagecoach line in from Frederick. John Adams sat down to a banquet here on 6 June 1800 and toasted the town's prosperity, months before the federal government moved down the road.
It is the last Federal-period tavern still standing in the District. Neighbors formed an association in 1959 to save it and reopened it as a private club in 1962, which it stayed for sixty-two years until it closed on 31 August 2024. A developer paid $8.5 million for it that November.

Georgetown era un puerto tabacalero antes de que Washington fuera una ciudad, y este edificio es lo que queda de aquel pueblo.
