Guide's tip. Begin in Memorial Hall, where a single gravestone is lit by the sun each Remembrance Day, then follow the building toward Regeneration Hall and its narrow view of Parliament. The museum currently requires timed admission and usually closes at 5 p.m., except Thursday at 7 p.m. Walk 0.74 miles along the Ottawa River edge and Wellington Street to the Supreme Court temporary home.

The story

The Canadian War Museum uses a low, angular building on LeBreton Flats to examine conflict through personal testimony, art, weapons, vehicles and the consequences carried home. Its architecture guides visitors through compressed interior passages toward wider spaces and views of the capital. Memorial Hall aligns one gravestone so sunlight reaches it each Remembrance Day at 11 a.m.\n\nRegeneration Hall turns toward the Peace Tower and gathers plaster figures made for the National War Memorial. The view makes remembrance and government part of the same conversation.\n\nTimed admission is currently required. Most days close at 5 p.m., with Thursday extended to 7 p.m. Current road work and events can alter the approach.
